Choosing the right pathway
Three lanes, by urgency.
Urgent but stable
For example, angina worsening over weeks. Phone eCardiology on (08) 9468 5578 and ask to speak with Dr Ng so the referral can be prioritised.
Routine
Stable symptoms, abnormal tests, risk assessment or second opinions. Send via Healthlink (ecardios) or refer online.
When to refer
- Angina despite optimal medical therapy
- Chronic total occlusion with symptoms or ischaemia
- Heavily calcified, left main or multivessel disease
- In-stent restenosis or stent under-expansion
- Angina after bypass surgery
- High surgical risk or declined for CABG
- Abnormal CTCA or calcium score, and preventive cardiology
- Second opinions, and diagnostic uncertainty
General cardiology and atrial fibrillation referrals are also accepted. GPs can refer for specialist review with CT coronary angiography. Medicare rebates apply when the scan is requested by Dr Ng after assessment and Medicare criteria are met.
What to include
Letter and medications
- The question you would like answered
- Symptoms and how they limit the patient
- Anti-anginal and antithrombotic therapy, with DAPT start date
- Anticoagulant and dose
- Contrast allergy and interpreter needs
Results
- eGFR, Hb, HbA1c and lipids
- ECG, and echo with LVEF
- CTCA, stress test or angiogram reports
- Prior CABG operation note
- For second opinions: angiogram disc or PACS link
Referrals are accepted while investigations are pending.

Findings and the plan are sent to you after consultations and procedures.
Heart team
Complex cases are discussed with a multidisciplinary Heart Team.
Shared care
Ongoing management is returned to you, with a clear plan.
