Dr Primero Ng, MBBS (Hons), FRACP, FACC, FSCAI

Dr Ng graduated with honours in medicine from the University of Western Australia and completed specialist cardiology training across Perth's major tertiary hospitals, gaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He then undertook advanced coronary training at Royal Perth Hospital, building a foundation in intravascular imaging and coronary physiology, alongside a fellowship in cardiac CT.

He was subsequently selected as the only overseas fellow to train at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, where he completed a formal Complex and High-Risk Indicated PCI (CHIP) fellowship under Dr Bill Lombardi, Dr Kate Kearney and Dr Lorenzo Azzalini. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. In 2026 he was named to SCAI's 30 in Their 30s, an international award recognising emerging leaders in interventional cardiology.

Dr Ng is first author of peer-reviewed work on complex coronary intervention in leading international journals. He wrote the 2025 state-of-the-art review on the management of coronary stent underexpansion in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (2025;85:625–644), with co-authors including Akiko Maehara, Ajay Kirtane, Margaret McEntegart, Farouc Jaffer and Kevin Croce. He was a key collaborator for the novel SLASH technique — Snare-Assisted Laceration of Subintimal Hematoma — for preserving side branches during bifurcation CTO PCI, published in Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions (2025).

His further first-author work includes the retrograde Scratch-and-Go technique for CTO PCI (Canadian Journal of Cardiology, 2026), reverse CART facilitated by a novel perfusion balloon (EuroIntervention, 2025), and an invited review on PCI of chronic total occlusions in patients with prior bypass surgery (Interventional Cardiology Clinics, 2025). He is a contributing investigator to the international PROGRESS-COMPLICATIONS registry and publishes on coronary physiology, microvascular function and valve surgery outcomes.

Dr Ng treats chronic total occlusions — arteries completely blocked for three months or longer — along with in-stent restenosis and stent underexpansion, heavily calcified coronary arteries, multivessel and left main disease, and angina that persists despite optimal medical therapy. A substantial part of his practice involves revascularisation for patients who have been declined bypass surgery or who wish to avoid it, and he welcomes second opinions where patients have been told no further treatment is possible.

Intravascular ultrasound, optical coherence tomography and pressure-wire physiology are used routinely rather than selectively, to determine whether to intervene, how, and whether the result is likely to last. Being dual-trained in cardiac CT, he is also able to plan non-invasive and invasive assessment together, and reports coronary CT angiography and calcium scoring for Western Radiology.

Successful coronary care, in Dr Ng's view, is not measured only by what happens to an artery. It is measured by whether a patient understands their condition, is able to make an informed decision about it, and returns to living well. His practice is deliberate, imaging-guided and evidence-based, and every recommendation is shaped by the individual patient's anatomy, symptoms, risk and personal goals.

Dr Ng holds a public appointment as an Interventional Cardiologist at Royal Perth Hospital, where he is Co-Lead of the Complex Coronary Therapeutics Program. In this role he helps advance complex coronary care, develop structured referral and treatment pathways, and improve access to contemporary interventional techniques for patients across Western Australia.

In private practice, he consults at outpatient clinics at The Mount Hospital and in Mandurah, and performs coronary procedures at The Mount Hospital and St John of God Hospital, Murdoch. He also reports cardiac CT studies for Western Radiology, supporting an integrated, imaging-led approach to diagnosis and treatment planning.
